The Martin and Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum is featured in the October issue of Texas Highways, the official travel magazine of Texas.
“It’s a great article,” Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree said at Tuesday’s meeting of Brownwood City Council. “The magazine is well respected by folks in the state, and it should see an increase in tourism. Mary (Irving, museum curator) and her folks do a great job.”
The article that features the local museum is titled “Track to the Future, Railroad Museums Make the Connection,” and begins on page 48.
The museums featured in addition to Brownwood’s Lehnis Railroad Museum are the Railroad and Heritage Museum in Temple, the museum from which Irving came when she moved to Brownwood, and the Museum of the American Railroad in Dallas.
“The article clearly puts Brownwood’s new museum on an equal footing with the much more established museums in the two other cities,” Irving said, noting that Brownwood is listed first in the article
Two photographs from the Brownwood museum are featured in the article.
“The railroads opened the way for people to settle out west, but they also made it possible for people to go on vacation out west,” Irving said.
Rountree said he regrets that photographs published of the museum are artistic in nature, and don’t fully showcase the beauty and scope of the Lehnis museum.
