A man’s unwelcome advances to a woman he knows through church landed him in the Brown County Jail, sheriff’s officials said.

Charles Daniel Johnson, 34, of Brownwood was arrested Sunday morning at Victory Life Church on charges of criminal trespass and stalking, according to a deputy’s report and jail records.

Johnson remained jailed Monday.

Deputy Pete Bastardo was dispatched to the church Sunday morning on a report of an unwanted person on the property, Bastardo’s report states.

A man with a wedding ring in his pocket was at the church in violation of a criminal trespass warning, which another deputy had issued on June 6, the report states.

Early Police David Chief David Mercer spoke with the man in the days before he was arrested and explained stalking laws, and the man told Mercer he “didn’t answer to our laws,” a complaint filed by investigator Lana Guthrie states. The man told people the woman was going to be his wife and that God intended them to be together, the complaint states.
