The Past, Present and Future Tour of downtown Brownwood tonight will explore some of the more historic buildings in the heart of the city.
The event, developed by members of the Downtown Brownwood Inc. board of directors, will begin between 5 and 5:15 p.m. today and conclude around 7 p.m.
Buses provided by City and Rural Rides will board at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center Plaza parking lot. Tickets costing $5 each for the tour are limited, but were still available Wednesday at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce office inside the Harvey House in the depot complex.
“The tour will include buildings with ‘a past,’ buildings that have been tastefully refurbished and buildings that have either blueprints on the table or are up for lease or purchase, just waiting for that special person to come along to make something grand of it,” Edda Ratliff, president of Downtown Brownwood Inc., said.
The ticket price will gain the tour member a peek inside a downtown residential loft, an old bank, the Lyric Theatre, the normally closed third floor of the old Brown County Jail which is now the Brown County Museum of History, plus tales and histories of numerous other downtown buildings.
Refreshments will be served at the museum at the midpoint of the tour.
The tour will open a series of community events scheduled in December, which will continue Friday with the annual Christmas Lighted Parade, and then Friday and Saturday with the first Christmas Under the Stars Festival.
