Recycling of live Christmas trees continues to be provided by the City of Brownwood Recycling Center, and trees may also be dropped off at the collection site under the Austin Avenue overpass at Brady Avenue and Avenue A through Jan. 15.

Trees will be chipped into mulch and made available to residents for landscaping and gardening use. All ornaments, decorations and stands should be removed, and they should not be wrapped in netting or plastic.

Meanwhile, the New Year’s Day holiday schedule for the City of Brownwood was announced by Tim Airheart, assistant director of public works.

Brownwood City Hall will be closed Tuesday, and there will no collection of residential waste that day. Residents with blue or green carts should note that Tuesday’s route will be collected on Wednesday next week.

The Recycling Center will be closed on Tuesday. The center now accepts cooking oil, Airheart said, and residents are asked not to pour it down sink drains or put it in dumpsters.

The City of Brownwood’s telephone line to report problems related to water or sewer service with in the city remains available at any time at 646-6000.
