Brownwood police arrested two women on assault charges following a disturbance between the two at their home early Wednesday morning.

One of the women said the other woman pointed a gun at her, police said.

Patricia Cole, 23, was booked into the Brown County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, jail records state.

Terry Abernathy, 35, was booked on an assault charge, records state.

Officer Trey Weathermon was dispatched at 2:04 a.m. to a home in the 2500 block of Austin on a report of a domestic disturbance in progress, Weathermon’s report states. A dispatcher radioed that one woman was holding a .22 caliber revolver on the other.

Weathermon arrived to see Abernathy walking toward his patrol car. She told Weathermon that Cole had assaulted her and pointed a gun at her, Weathermon’s report states.

Weathermon found a revolver on the couch inside the home. Cole said Abernathy had assaulted her, and Cole had scratch marks and abrasions, Weathermon’s report states.

Other officers arrived to assist, and Weathermon arrested both women. In other incidents:

• Early police arrested five Waco men on Border Patrol holds after a traffic stop Wednesday morning. The men told police they were traveling back and forth between Waco and Brownwood to work at a construction site, Early Police Chief David Mercer said.

• A Midwest Finance representative told police they suspect a woman stole $3,226 from the company while she worked there.

• Officer Brandon Arnold arrested Bryan Temple, 22, on charges of possession of under 2 ounces of marijuana and making alcohol available to a minor after a traffic stop.
