The fiddle-playin’ and banjo-pickin’ for the 2009 Texas Bluegrass Celebration is about to get under way. Opening event of the three-day festival is a free beans and cornbread dinner at the Depot Plaza.

You can come and get your dinner at 5:30 p.m., then about 6:20, there’s gonna be a free-for-all jam session. Then, starting about 8:30 p.m. two of the six bands performing this weekend — Triple L and Digger Davis and Tombstone will play awhile. All of the events today will be held at the Depot Plaza.

The celebration continues, again starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, but in the Brownwood Coliseum. Saltgrass, Tennessee Valley Authority and IIIrd Generation, Triple L and Digger Davis will rotate turns on stage until 10 p.m.

The festivities will continue at 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday with a full day of bluegrass, bringing in the previous five bands of the weekend along with Clear River.

Several of these six family bands have traveled all over the United States and are ready to bring a taste of the area’s beloved bluegrass music.

Ticket prices for the weekend are one-day tickets for $5 on Thursday, $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday, or on Thursday a special rate three-day ticket will be available for $25.
