Keep Brownwood Beautiful and the City of Brownwood are hosting a free citywide and e-waste collection Saturday.
The collection site will be the same site as the one where the agencies set up the recycling trailer the first Saturday of each month — under the Austin Avenue overpass at Avenue A and Brady Avenue.
Volunteers will be at the site from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. to help with the disposal and recycling of the items.
Acceptable E-Waste or “electronic type” items include computers and monitors, printers and copy machines, fax machines, scanners, digital cameras, networking equipment, UPS, VCR/VCD/DVD players, MP3 players, PDAs, cell phones and dry cell batteries.
There is a $10 to $20 charge for the disposal of television sets, but all other E-waste disposal is free, said Cary Perrin, executive director for KBB.
But also, Perrin said, other debris and unwanted items are being accepted at the site, including brush, yard debris, household garbage, paint, oil, appliances, antifreeze, car batteries, car tires (maximum of eight per household) and other typical recyclable items such as metal cans, aluminum, glass and plastic milk jugs and soda and juice bottles.
No hazardous waste will be accepted.

“We hope people will help ‘make a difference’ by cleaning up and by keeping electronic waste out of our landfill,” Perrin said.
