Bulletin Staff Report
The Family Services Center will offer hamburgers and sausage wraps to the public at a fund-raising luncheon today, but it’s only the beginning of a busy time for employees and volunteers.
The lunch will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today at the center, 901 Ave. B, Brownwood. Chips, drinks and dessert will be included. Proceeds will benefit the center, helping to fund programs that aren’t eligible for state grant funding it receives, including services for families who don’t have children, Cindy Harris, volunteer coordinator, said Thursday.
“We hold these luncheons periodically,” Harris said. “The last time was a benefit for the United Way, and we might do that again later.”
Harris said the center will begin a new fiscal year in September, and “we want to finish this year strong.”
But today’s event is just a prelude to the center’s major fund-raiser, its sixth annual summer open bass tournament to be held Saturday, Aug. 11, at Mountain View Lodge and Marina on Lake Brownwood. The event is sponsored by the Brownwood Bass Club.
Those attending the luncheon today will have the opportunity to purchase tickets for a Toshiba 42-inch DLP HD television set to be given away at the tournament, and the winner need not be present to win. Tickets are also available at Citizens National Bank, Mid-Tex Federal Credit Union and TexasBank at $2 each of three for $5.
Tournament entry forms are available at the center.
The Family Services Center is a nonprofit organization committed to building stronger families.
