Brownwood Police Chief Virgil Cowin commended four of his officers to the Brownwood City Council Tuesday for the jobs they have done.

Cowin cited officers Johnny Jackson, James Kidd and Fred Bastardo, the department’s field training officers.

The three shared top honors as outstanding law enforcement officers of the year at the annual Crime Stoppers’ banquet earlier this month.

Cowin also read a letter from Sgt. Randall Krpoun in which Krpoun recommended patrolman Troy Grusendorf for the Police Commendation Award.

Jackson said the purpose of the field training officer program is to put a new officer with a training officer for several weeks. “Most of the goal is to teach them to be safe and educate them on the department’s policies,” Jackson said.

Jackson, Kidd and Bastardo were nominated for the law officers of the year award for their job performances and for their dedication as field training officers.

Grusendorf has made 56 arrests since Jan. 1 and discovered three burglaries in process between March 2 and April 14 while assigned to midnight shift, Krpoun’s letter states.
