Bulletin Staff Report
Biovance Texas, LLC recently finalized the purchase of the former Blue Bonnet feed mill at 3101 Stephen F. Austin in Brownwood, officials announced this week.
The company president said the acquisition ideally matches the strategic direction of Biovance’s corporate long-range business goals.
“The addition of this facility, although it needed considerable work to get it up and running, will allow us to control manufacturing of our own products, as well as to provide manufacturing services to numerous other clients,” said Dr. William Julien, president of Biovance Texas, LLC. “This acquisition also allows us to be now fully integrated - from R&D to full commercialization of our own specialized and patented products.”
Biovance purchased the plant that had been vacant since November 2007 to meet its immediate needs associated with the growing demands for the patented equine nutritional products of its partner company, Biovance Technologies, Inc of Omaha, Neb. The equine product line consists of its trademarks ReStore, Revolution, Revolution-Rx and Revolution Concentrate. The Web site for information on these products is www.restoreforhorses.com.
Biovance will also add several manufacturing clients seeking the volume and extrusion capabilities of the plant.
“With the volume running through the plant,” Jim Miller, plant manager for Biovance, said, “we’ve been able to hire several local workers back and are looking to hire additional staff in the future.”
Biovance has worked closely with local economic development officials to facilitate this growth opportunity for both the company and the community. Recently Biovance was awarded a workforce development grant from the Brownwood Economic Development Corp.
The company has worked quickly to refurbish the plant after it sat idle for nine months. Miller, along with Terry Carr, plant supervisor, worked with local community resources and coordinated the hiring of local staff to enable the plant to be fully operational by Sept. 15. This timeframe enabled Biovance to secure a contract with Wendland’s and Jupe Feeds Inc. of Temple. These companies will also share a strategic alliance involving the distribution and sales of each other’s products.
Biovance will add a retail store to the warehouse as an outlet for Biovance and Wendland’s products as well as other products that meet the needs of the area.
The plant will also manufacture Biovance’s other patented and proprietary technologies for companion and commercial (swine, beef, specialty show categories) species. All Biovance products are classified as natural and have national and international distribution.
“We are off to a terrific start and look forward to being a contributor within the community,” Miller said. “Our experience at our two Iowa plants provides strong expertise to successfully develop the Brownwood facility into the centerpiece of our production strategy.”
Biovance Texas, LLC manufactures for its partner company Biovance Technologies, Inc of Omaha, Neb., as a 20-year-old technology development and transfer company, Biovance Technologies, Inc. specializes in the research, development, commercialization and/or transfer of proprietary technologies for the commercial and companion animal industries. All products are proprietary and novel, and are based upon sound scientific principles, company officials said. The company's innovative products target the animals’ health, long-term viability and performance.
