Bulletin Staff Report
A violent thunderstorm with winds of up to 60 miles an hour and brilliant electrical displays damaged tree limbs and roofs while knocking out electrical service to 1,800 local customers Monday night.
Perhaps 200 of those customers waited until Tuesday morning before their electrical service was restored.
Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree offered a storm damage report at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
A lightning strike behind the Brownwood Bulletin interrupted electrical service, forcing the Tuesday morning edition to be printed in Waxahachie. Full power was restored by mid-morning, but the Bulletin observed an early deadline for today’s edition while repairs related to the strike were under way.
Most of the power outages were in the southern part of Brownwood.
The storms were the leading edge of a cold front that dropped afternoon temperatures in the low 90s on Monday to the upper 60s on Tuesday.
