Couples planning to get married in the near future who want to get a discount on their marriage license, may want to consider premarital counseling to save heartache, as well as money.

Couples who complete at least an eight-hour seminar on helping couples develop communication and conflict resolution skills will save $60 on their marriage license because of an incentive as part of a state initiative to decrease divorce rates in Texas.

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, the Family Services Center in Brownwood will offer a Twogether in Texas Marriage Education Seminar.

The seminar will incorporate ways to learn effective communication skills such as talking with each other, solving problems, setting goals for the future, enjoying being together and having fun. The workshop is led by Vance and Susan Marcum.

A certificate will be given at the end of the workshop which couples can take to the county clerk when applying for a marriage license.

The Family Services Center offers marriage education seminars quarterly at no charge. A meal and a snack will be provided at each of these seminars.

To register for the seminar or for more information, call the Family Services Center at (325) 646-5939 or toll free at (866) 211-2255.
