Special to the Bulletin

The ARK Domestic Violence Shelter has several Domestic Violence Awareness Month events scheduled for the next two weeks, helping to focus awareness to the seriousness and prevalence of domestic violence.

Among the activities planned are the Empty Shoes Displays to commemorate the reported domestic violence homicide victims in Brown, Coleman and Comanche counties in the last 10 years. Beside each “empty shoe” is information about the seven women and one child who died.

Visitors may obtain a purple ribbon to wear to raise awareness of domestic violence and brochures on The ARK’s services that include information on domestic violence. The displays are at the Brown County Courthouse through Wednesday this week, the Coleman County Courthouse through Thursday, Comanche Police Dept. Oct. 27-29; and at TSTC West Texas in Brownwood Oct. 29.

A balloon release memorial ceremony to raise awareness of domestic violence will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 in the grassy area on the southwest corner of the Traffic T.

The public is invited to attend and participate, and all dometic violence victims’ families, survivors of domestic violence and those who support the cause of ending domestic violence are urged to attend as well.
