Bulletin Staff Report
Brownwood High School’s Skills USA building trades and welding classes have qualified for state competition June 1-5 in Corpus Christi.
The projects of Justin Matthews, Ole Moreno, Anthony Hernandez, Justin Ward, Kevin Cantu, Jonathan Fitzgerald and Victor Trevino all scored blue ribbons, Brownwood High building trades and welding instructor Danny Valdez said.
Cantu and Trevino were gold medal winner in welding and residential plumbing, and they will compete against other first place winners in the other 14 districts across the state.
Hernandez and Moreno were silver medalists in welding, and will compete in the technical standard testing.
“I want to thank the administration for their support in these programs that are so vital to a growing community,” Valdez said. “I want to thank Barr Fabrication for the donations of scrap metal that the students use in training for their skills contest and fabricating their projects. I am so proud of these young men. They believed in what they were doing and went to district and came back with results. What more can you ask for?”
