Brownwood police are investigating the theft of 28 football jerseys from Brownwood Middle School.

Officer Troy Grusendorf was dispatched to the school Friday and was told the jerseys were discovered missing after contract workers did work in the gymnasium, Grusendorf’s report states.

Football jerseys were found strewn across the floor, and 28 jerseys, valued at $1,981, were missing.

Sgt. Troy Carroll said police did not have any solid suspects as of Monday.

In unrelated cases, police made drug-related arrests.

Officer James Fuller received a tip Friday that someone in a room at the Luxury Inn, 766 W. Commerce, had smoked crack.

A man identified as Tracy Kunkel answered Fuller’s knock. Fuller arrested Kunkel, 43, after learning he had warrants from justice of the peace court.

Fuller retrieved a crack pipe and other items from the room, and a substance on Kunkel’s chest tested positive for cocaine, Fuller’s report states. Kunkel was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Officer Brandon Arnold investigated a vehicle parked Sunday afternoon in the 600 block of Bailey, an area where vehicles often park and drug deals are made, Arnold’s report states.

The driver consented to a vehicle search, and Arnold found two handguns, a butterfly knife and drug paraphernalia.

Robert James Funderburg, 47, was booked into the Brown County Jail on charges of having a prohibited weapon, unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia, jail records state.

In other incidents:

A 45-year-old woman was taken by Guardian EMS to Brownwood Regional Medical Center Saturday after a dog running loose struck the front wheel of her bicycle, and she was thrown over the handlebars.

The woman was riding with her husband in the 3600 block of Austin. The dog’s owner was cited for allowing an animal to run at large.

Officer Sky Self arrested John Walker Jr., 34, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Self was dispatched Saturday to Brick Street on a report that a man with a screw driver was attacking another man.
