The 100-year flood plain in the City of Brownwood will be expanding, based on a map endorsed Tuesday by Brownwood City Council. But property owners in areas being added will be able to save money on flood insurance if they purchase it before the maps are officially published, city officials said.
“We have no control over what insurance companies might do on rates, but we do understand that flood insurance will be less expensive now for those in the newly identified flood plain than it will be if they wait,” Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree told city council.
