An item on the agenda for Tuesday’s Brownwood City Council meeting calls for the council to name a new interim city manager.

If the council takes that action, the city will have its third interim city manager since former City Manager Kevin Carruth was forced to resign in November.

The assignment would likely be a short one, as the council is on the cusp of naming a new city manager.

Council members named City Attorney Pat Chesser as interim city manager after Carruth resigned. Chesser continued to serve as city attorney but stepped down in May as the interim city manager.

Council members then appointed James Campbell, director of the Brownwood Economic Development Corp., as interim city manager.

Campbell, who still works as director of the BEDC, said he hasn't had the time to do both jobs properly and is behind in BEDC matters. He said he will stay on as interim city manager if asked but said he wanted to let council members decide that issue.

The council meets at 9 a.m. at City Hall.
