A Brownwood police officer arrested two people early Thursday morning after investigating a report of drug use at Coggin Park.
Eighteen-year-old Brownwood residents Aaron Miller and Christopher Guerra were booked into the Brown County Jail on one count each of possessing under 2 ounces of marijuana, jail records state.
Officer Patrick Sloan was dispatched to Coggin Park at 2:55 a.m. Thursday after someone reported that several young people were “doing drugs” near the park’s playground, Sloan’s report states.
Sloan blacked out his patrol car, parked near the park and watched through his binoculars as four people sat a picnic table. They got into a car and started to drive away, and Sloan stopped the car at Roselawn and Austin, Sloan’s report states.
Sloan saw two bags of marijuana were on the ground near the car, and he arrested Miller and Guerra after questioning them about the ownership of the marijuana.

Deputy Shawn Dibrell arrested Eddie Jowers, 39, of Brownwood on a charge of possessing under 2 ounces of marijuana.
Dibrell went to Jowers’ home to speak with him about an upcoming trial. Jowers invited Dibrell inside, and Dibrell smelled marijuana. Jowers consented to a search of his home by Dibrell and deputy Pete Bastardo, and the deputies found marijuana, Dibrell’s report states.
Deputy Sky Self arrested Tina Rabren, 39, and Christopher Denton, 25, on public intoxication charges after being dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the 2100 block of Savoy.
Self arrived to find the two hugging and crying, saying they had argued but couldn’t remember why.
Officer Danny Hutchins arrested Sean Ojeda, 21, of Brownwood on a theft charge after an attempted shoplifting at Wal-Mart. Someone walked down the aisles with a cart and loaded 31 grocery items into Wal-Mart bags, the tried to leave without paying for the items, Hutchins’ report states. Deputies are investigating a possible internal theft of $200 from the Corral West store.
