Bulletin Staff Report
The Brownwood Reunion Celebration’s 5K run and 1.5-mile walk “keeps getting better and better,” according to coordinator Sue Byrd, and this year’s events on Sept. 19 will feature a new route that goes past several historic sites.
The route will take participants through downtown Brownwood, beginning and ending at the Lehnis Railroad Museum at the corner of Congress and East Adams in the heart of the Reunion activities.
The route goes past the Howard Payne University campus and its new art facility (the old Coca-Cola building), Center Park, the Lyric Theatre, the Brown County Courthouse and the world’s smallest block — according to Guinness World Records.
The route is shown on the Web site www.BrownwoodTX.com. Entry forms are also available on the Web, as well as at several businesses in Brown County.
The run will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, with check-in, and the run itself will begin at 8 a.m. Packets should be picked up from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, and 7 and 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.
Entry fees will be $20 per person in advance and $25 per person on race day. Age categories will be 10 and under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.
T-shirts will be offered to the first 150 people to enter. Door prize drawings will be held during the awards ceremony, and all participants are eligible to win.
In the run, awards will be presented to the top three places in each age group, for the overall male and female, and winning team entry. Teams will consist of three to five members from a business of group, and the top three times will count toward the award.
Walkers will start immediately after the runners clear. Children age 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Events sponsors at Brownwood Regional Medical Center and Landmark Life.
The run will be chip-times by Run-Far Racing Services, and photography will be available before, during and after the race.
