Christmas Day need not be a lonely time for Brown County area residents.

The Brownwood Salvation Army Service Center, 403 Lakeway, will serve a basic traditional Christmas meal from noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 25, and anyone who will be alone on that day is invited to dine, Donna Harris, service center director, said.

“Everyone is welcome to come,” Harris said.

Volunteers are also being recruited to assist with the meal’s preparation. Volunteers should report to the center between 8 a.m. and noon on Christmas.

Donations of food to prepare are also being sought, Harris said.

“We need stuffing mixes, canned chicken broth, sage, eggs, margarine, can cream, cranberry sauce, desserts and rolls,” Harris said. “If ylu have extra of any of these, please bring to to the center between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dec. 22 through Dec. 24.

Serving noon meals to anyone who is hungry or needs to see a friendly face is nothing new at the Salvation Army Service Center. One of its major projects in the Loaves and Fishes program, which provide hot lunches from noon to 1 p.m. on weekdays at no charge as a part of its mission. Volunteers play a major role in that program, as well.

For information, call Harris at (325) 203-0766 or the center at (325) 646-5369.

“The Salvation Army Service Center of Brownwood wants to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and many blessings in the new year,” Harris said. “God bless you all.”
