Bulletin Staff Report
Power was out around most of Brownwood, and reportedly out in portions of Early, Bangs and Lake Brownwood, for up to two and a half hours Tuesday evening.
According to Ken Harriss, area manager for operations with Oncor Electric Delivery, a piece of equipment failed at the substation off Sharp Street. The outage was first reported around 5:40 p.m. and affected buildings in the downtown business district and along Commerce Avenue and businesses and residences in south Brownwood.
“It was an outage due to equipment failure,” Harriss said. He reported that all power had been restored around 8:15 p.m. after the power load was switched to different lines.
Numerous restaurants along East and West Commerce were closed for an hour or more, although some just across the highway were affected for only a few seconds.
Brownwood Police directed traffic at intersections such as the “Traffic T,” Austin and Coggin, and Coggin and Third until power was restored.
