Bangs native Coffey Anderson earned a place among the final four contestants on NBC’s “Nashville Star.”

After being one of more than 45,000 to audition for the show’s sixth season, Anderson was one of six Texans to be included among the dozen finalists. After Monday night’s elimination of the fifth contestant, Anderson and three others remain. The “Nashville Star” winner will get a recording contract and will perform at the Olympics in Beijing.

Bloggers posted that Anderson’s performance Monday night, when he sang his own original “Southern Man” was his best performance yet. And while judges have said Anderson is more pop than country, Anderson’s fans have blogged, that “country” is changing, and Anderson is “truly country.”

Anderson, who lives in Los Angeles now, is the son of Stanley Anderson of Bangs and the late Gloria Anderson. He is a single father, and has said his 5-year-old daughter, Savannah, is his inspiration. Anderson is a former “American Idol” contestant.

“Nashville Star” airs on NBC on Monday nights.
