The time left for Christmas shoppers to finish checking the boxes on to-do and to-buy lists is slipping away, and area residents are making final plans for Santa’s arrival. Due to the holiday, several businesses and government entities will have special hours this week.

City of Brownwood offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Trash collection days are as follows: Thursday’s routes will be collected Dec. 24 and Friday’s routes will be collected Saturday.

The recycling center and landfill will be closed on Thursday and Friday and will reopen on Saturday. For problems related to water or sewer service within the City of Brownwood, customers may call 646-6000.

Christmas trees may be brought to the recycling center, located at 6800 FM 45 South, one mile south of the National Guard armory or dropped off in the parking lot at Brady and Avenue A under the Austin Ave. overpass. All trees must be free of lights, decorations, tree stands and not be wrapped in plastic or netting. Trees will be collected between Dec. 26 and Jan. 15. Call 641-8832 for information.

Howard Payne University’s administrative offices will be closed for the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2. Offices will reopen on Jan. 5.

The Office of University Advancement, located at 803 Center Ave., will be open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30 for those who would like to make end-of-the-year gifts. The Office of University Advancement may be reached at 649-8006.

The City of Early’s offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Trash routes scheduled for Thursday will be picked up Wednesday. Trash will be picked up before noon, and the city asks all residents to have their trash out early.

The City of Bangs will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Trash pickups scheduled for Thursday will be picked up Wednesday. The Bangs Post Office will be open from 8:30 a.m. until noon Christmas Eve. Patrons are encouraged to use the Brownwood Post Office, which will be open from 8 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. All post offices will be closed Christmas day.

Other municipal, county, state and federal offices will also be closed Thursday, and many on Friday as well.

Heartland Mall will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and reopen at 10 a.m. Friday. Wal-Mart will close at 6 p.m. Wednesday and reopen at 6 a.m. on Friday. Goody’s will close at 7 p.m. Wednesday and reopen at 7 a.m. Friday.

Brookshire’s will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, while Kroger will close at 8 p.m. the same day. Both stores will resume normal business hours Friday.

Walgreen’s will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday, Christmas Eve. The store will be open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, while the pharmacy will be closed. Doc’s will be open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday and will reopen Friday. The CVS on Commerce will remain open until 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the pharmacy closing at 8 p.m. Both the store and pharmacy will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Christmas Day. The hours are different for the CVS on Austin Avenue. Christmas Eve, the store will be open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the pharmacy closing at 8 p.m. Christmas Day, the pharmacy will be closed, but the store will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Live Oak Pharmacy will close at 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and reopen at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29.
