The August session of the Brown County Grand Jury returned indictments for possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone against four people who were arrested on May 9 at a Brownwood motel.
According to 35th District Court records, those indicted were Brownwood residents Walter Brannon, 30, Rachel Fortune, 19, Brandon French, 18, and Ryan Schwab, 25.
A 16-year-old girl was also arrested, authorities said earlier.
Sheriff’s deputy Carlyle Gover said he arrested the five with the assistance of Early and Brownwood police after he received information that marijuana was being sold out of a room at America’s Best Value Inn. Gover said he and Early police Sgt. Shawn Dibrell knocked on the door. A man opened the door and the officers smelled marijuana and saw marijuana haze, Gover said. He showed his badge and the man said, “I’m busted.”
The man consented to a search of the room and the officers found marijuana packaged for sale, Gover said.
