Whether or not to proceed with the pricing for new bleachers to be included in the high school gym will be a consideration before the Early Independent School District board of trustees when it meets Thursday.

The regular session meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday in the board room of the EISD Administration Building, 1080 Early

Blvd.

The gymnasium renovations are being made this summer, and trustees will look at the pricing on additional and new retractable bleachers at Thursday’s meeting.

Trustees unanimously approved the sale of the bonds necessary for extensive renovations to the primary school and high school gymnasium and renovations and additions to the high school; the construction of a new elementary school; and a new and renovated track and football stadium at a special called meeting June 7.

Voters approved a $21.3 million bond in May 2006, but trustees had resolved before the election that the district would not sell bonds without state assistance. According to the Spring 2006 calculations, the district would have been eligible for up to $14.7 million in state funds over the 30-year life of the bonds.

But not all of the hoped-for funding came through in 2006. However, in its 2007 session, the Texas Legislature passed and the governor has signed funding appropriations and Early ISD will be getting that funding.

Shawn Russell, president of the school board, said at the June 7 meeting that trustees had worked for six months to pare the overall project from $21.3 million to $17.5 million, and could proceed at the same tax implication. The major cut, she said, was the construction of a new high school gym in addition to the current gym being renovated.

Other regular agenda items to be considered at the Thursday meeting include:

Consideration for approval of 2007-08 School Board Calendar; Discuss proposals for student extracurricular insurance for the 2007-08 school year; Discuss cafeteria breakfast and lunch prices for the 2007-08 school year; Review Board Policy Manual “Update 80”.

The meeting agenda also includes reports to be presented by the board president, EISD school principals, athletic director, business manager, assistant superintendent and the superintendent.

The consent agenda includes the consideration for approval of the minutes of the May 15, 2007, regular session meeting and the special called meeting, June 7, and the consideration for approval of the June disbursements.
