Bulletin Staff Report
Kelly Spinks and two other members of the popular Brownwood-based country band, Kelly Spinks and Miles of Texas, were injured Saturday night when the vehicle they were riding in hit a cow, one of Spinks’ family members said.
Thelma Schlee, a cousin of Spinks’ mother, said all six band members were riding in a Yukon sport utility vehicle, pulling a trailer with the band’s instruments, when the accident happened. The band was returning to Brownwood from San Antonio, where the band had performed, Schlee said.
She said the SUV and trailer rolled three times and caught fire. She did not know where the accident occurred but said Spinks and the other injured band members — Pat McShan and “Rooster” Crow — were taken to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
A musicians’ Web site, steelguitarforum.com, posted a notice that said the accident happened near Mason.
Schlee said Spinks has a punctured lung and broken bones, but said his prognosis is good. No information was available Monday from Brackenridge representatives.
Other members of the band are Joe Daniel, Mikey Caperton and William Manuel, according to the band’s Web site.
