Brownwood police followed tire and scuff marks in the pavement to a vehicle suspected of being in a hit-and-run accident and arrested the driver.

Royce Gober, 44, was booked into the Brown County Jail on a charge of fleeing the scene of an accident, jail records state.

Officer Stephanie Morgan was dispatched to the scene of an accident near Temple and Hickory and 7:41 p.m. Tuesday. Morgan arrived to find a woman standing near a damaged 1983 Chevrolet Caprice, Morgan’s report states.

The woman said a Chevrolet S-10 pickup, coming toward her on Temple, began moving into her lane. She could not avoid a collision, and the pickup spun around, hit her car again and drove away on one rim.

Officer Mike Clark followed tire marks, acceleration marks and marks left by the rim to the 2700 block of Abilene, where the suspect truck was parked in front of a home. A man inside said he was driving and didn’t remember what had happened, and must have blacked out, Morgan’s report states.
