For the second time in two days, a DWI charge has been filed following a traffic accident in Brownwood.

Officer Brandon Arnold was dispatched to an accident in the 1000 block of Vine at 9:35 p.m. Monday. A 1999 Ford Mustang hit a utility pole and knocked down a speed limit sign, Arnold’s report states.

The driver yelled that he was intoxicated and knew he was going to jail. After conducting a field sobriety test, Arnold arrested the driver, Scott Bartlett, 25, of Brownwood, police and jail records state.

Bartlett’s passenger told Arnold he had been drinking at two local businesses and the two were trying to get to their home in the 1100 block of Phillips, Arnold’s report states.

The passenger told Arnold she had tried to drive home but he wouldn’t give her his keys. She said she didn’t know how the accident occurred because she had her seat laid back to avoid seeing how bad he was driving, Arnold’s report states.

In an unrelated alcohol-related incident, police were dispatched Monday night to the Food Plaza at 2800 U.S. 377 South on a report that two people were causing a disturbance.

The two people were in a car when Cpl. Kenyon Black arrived at the store. Black arrested the man behind the wheel, Santiago Mendoza, 21, of San Saba, on a public intoxication charge, police and jail records state.

The store clerk told officer James Fuller a man had entered the store and yelled at her because she was on the phone.
