Special to the Bulletin

Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree announced the reorganization of the city’s Code Enforcement Department.

It has been been reorganized and renamed as the Development Services Depart-ment, Rountree said in an e-mail to the Bulletin on Tuesday.

The intent is to “improve the effectiveness of the department and utilize existing city employees to concentrate more in the area of code enforcement,” Rountree said in the e-mail.

The Development Services Administrator is current staff engineer, Kevin Pate.

The Development Services Department is responsible for building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits, administering city codes, and code enforcement of substandard structures, junk vehicles, tall grass and weeds and open storage.

Joe Taylor and Ron Watson have been assigned to specifically address code enforcement issues. Jodie Kelley, GIS coordinator, will interface with the Planning and Zoning Commission, Rountree said.

The duties of Fire Chief Del Albright have been expanded to include the oversight of Emergency Management, Civil Service, and the Health Department areas directed by James Cook.

This will utilize Albright’s experience with emergency management issues, Rountree said.
