Bulletin Staff Report
Only one person knows who the headliners for this year’s Brownwood Reunion Celebration will be, but she is not telling anyone until the volunteer kickoff meeting Monday.
“Friday’s headliner has a certified platinum song, which is currently fourth on the charts and climbing,” said Randee Green, the executive director of the Reunion. “Saturday’s act is also known nationally and his first single landed number one on Billboard’s country singles chart last summer; plus, he loves the ‘Heart of
Like a good poker player, Green is keeping all the names close to her vest. That’s probably more than a coincidence since this year’s theme is Lucky Number Seven. This year’s Reunion Celebration, the seventh, will take place the third weekend in September.
“One of the top stars has sung with Sheryl Crow and recorded a duet with Willie Nelson, among others,” Green said. “If that’s not good enough, both stars are ‘drop-down-on-the-floor-and-kick good-looking.’”
With a wide grin, Green urged everyone interested in volunteering for this year’s event to, “be the first to know who the stars are and get even more excited once you hear about all the new special events planned for this year—for every age group from toddlers to grandparents. All you have to do is come to the meeting and find out for yourself first-hand.”
Debbie Morelock, who has been a volunteer at each of the previous events said volunteering isn’t just work, but also a lot of fun.
“This is going to be our ‘Lucky Seven’ year so please think about getting in on the fun at the very beginning and volunteering whatever time you have available,” she said.
“There are large and small time commitments but they are all, very important to a successful event. This is a great opportunity to get to know people from Brownwood, Early and the surrounding areas that you wouldn't have a chance to know otherwise. And, I promise, at least once a month or more you will be in the middle of a lot of fun and laughter — starting now and all the way until the
final hour of the Reunion weekend.”
Volunteers attending Monday’s meeting are encouraged to wear a vintage Reunion shirt or a red T-shirt for a group photo that will publish on the community’s Web site, www.BrownwoodTX.com and in the Brownwood Bulletin. The names of the headline bands and exciting new events for the 2007 Brownwood Reunion Celebration will be announced at the meeting at 5 p.m. Monday at the Coliseum Annex.
The Brownwood Reunion Celebration will be held Sept. 14, 15 and 16. For more information about the event and specific volunteer opportunities go to www.BrownwoodTx.com or call Marie Grace, volunteer coordinator, at 643-1442.
People attending universities outside the area or who frequently travel to communities within a two-hour radius of Brownwood are asked to consider joining or assisting the marketing and public relations committee.
