Special to the Bulletin

Donna Harris, the director of the Salvation Army Service Center in Brownwood, will serve as parade grand marshal Friday when downtown Brownwood comes alive to the sound of ringing bells. The Spirit of Christmas Lighted Parade will make its way through the streets beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, kicking off the Christmas Under the Stars Festival.

This year’s parade is themed “The Spirit of Christmas” and is sponsored by Southside Church.

“The Salvation Army is a shining example of an organization that gives back to others; and not just at Christmas time, but all year long,” said Eric Evans, pastor of worship and administration at Southside Church. “The Southside Church family is thrilled to have this opportunity to give back to the community and we hope to inspire others to do so as well.”

All participants in the parade are encouraged to support a non-profit organization of their choosing.

Awards will be given to parade participants in the following categories: Best of Parade, (overall entry that best develops Theme, Design and Lighting), Grand Marshal’s Choice (entry that best exemplifies the Parade Theme), Club/Civic Organization, Equine, Company/Industry, Religious, School, Vehicle, and Band.

Registration of parade entries is now under way online at www.southsidebrown
