Auditions are being held this evening for the Brownwood Lyric Theatre’s summer children’s play, “The Stinky Cheese Man.”

The play’s cast will include three men, three women and a boy. Those auditioning do not need to prepare anything for auditions, but will be given materials when they arrive at the Howard Payne University Theatre stage, said Dr. Nancy Jo Humfeld of HPU and one of the Lyric Theatre Performing Arts Company’s founding directors.

Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. today. Humfeld said rehearsals for “The Stinky Cheese Man” will begin Monday. The play’s performances will be June 29, 30 and July 1.

“We hope to have a great number of folks interested in auditions, and even more attending the play at the end of the month,” Humfeld said. “This is a delightful play, which will be enjoyed by folks of all ages.”

The children’s play is based on the very popular children’s book, “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” by Jon Scieszka.

Cody Eoff, a graduate of Early High School and of Howard Payne, who now teaches in San Antonio, is the director of the play.

“Cody has distinguished himself in the world of high school theatre by taking his students to all levels of competition in the University Interscholastic League,” Humfeld said. “I am so very proud of Cody. Within four years of graduating from HPU, he had taken his students all the way to the state level in the one-act play competition. There are many high school teachers who never succeed at that level, and he did it very quickly. He is a wonderful person and an incredible director. I know folks will truly enjoy working with Cody, and it’s so great to have one of our own come back and direct for us.”
