Brown County Commis-sioners Court will canvass the votes for the May 12 state election when it convenes for its regular session meeting Monday.
Brown County voters overwhelmingly approved an amendment to the Texas constitution that would extend property tax ceilings granted by the legislature last year to the elderly and handicapped. Of the total 1,907 votes cast, 1,734 were in favor (91 percent) and 173 were opposed.
The Commissioners Court meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. and will be held in the courtroom on the main floor of the Brown County Courthouse.
Besides the canvass of the votes, commissioners will consider approval of a replacement employee for the District Clerk Jan Brown’s office. Brown County Tax Assessor Cheryl Nelson will come back before the court to request its approval to hire a part-time employee. Margaret Wood, county clerk, will also ask the court for approval to make personnel changes in that office.
The only other agenda item will be from Precinct 4 Commissioner Larry Traweek, who will request a utility easement on County Road 611.
