EARLY — A Breckenridge company has completed a street improvement project in Early, and city officials are “very well pleased” with the job, City Administrator Ken Thomas said.

Raydon Construction not only did a good job, but finished $15,887 under budget because some material cost less than anticipated, Thomas said.

The Early City Council awarded the company a $209,590 contract in May. City officials wanted to rebuild Sunnydale and a portion of Old Comanche Road that was not part of the previous year’s $2.4 million project.

The company completed the project last week, and council member David Gray commented that there was “zero on the punch list,” Thomas said.

In an unrelated matter, Thomas said the city’s application period for police chief closed Friday with 28 applicants. The new chief will replace Junior Pinson, who is retiring Dec. 31.

A search committee consisting of Thomas, Mayor Bob Mangrum, councilman David Gray and citizen Brent Bush will determine how many applicants the committee wants to interview, Thomas said.
