Bulletin Staff Report

After a snowstorm dropped 2-3 inches of white Christmas on the Brownwood area last Thursday, residents got a reprise of wintry weather Tuesday.

Accumulations were not quite as deep Tuesday as they were the day before Christmas, but they were still enough to create some concerns about travel – and to provide creative folks with enough substance to build a second round of snowmen.

Clearing conditions were forecast overnight and today, but that could leave roads and highways dangerous due to ice.

“The Texas Department of Public Safety encourages drivers to exercise caution when traveling,” Senior Trooper Sparky Dean of Abilene’s Texas Highway Patrol Education office said. “So far (Tuesday), state troopers have worked less than 10 crashes in the Big Country – of those, only one was an injury crash.”

A command center was established in Eastland County in case weather worsens, and members of the National Guard have been staged there.
