The August session of the Brown County Grand Jury returned indictments recently in cases alleging sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography, an assault involving a white supremacist organization, money laundering and robbery.

Stephen Douglas Nichols, 42, was indicted on charges of sexual assault of a child and possession or promotion of child pornography, 35th District Court records state.

Nichols was arrested April 26 after an Early High School student’s outcry at an alcohol abuse program at the school, police said.

Paul Morgan, a Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission agent, was presenting a program at the high school when a 17-year-old girl called him aside, police said. Early police and sheriff’s officials began an investigation after learning what the girl told Morgan about one of her relatives, police said.

Ryan Lockwood, 25, of Hamilton and Dustin Vaught, 24, of Clifton were indicted on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity - assault.

The two were arrested minutes after an early-morning assault on June 23 in the 1700 block of Avenue B.

The suspects and a third assailant, who got away, are believed to be members of the Aryan Circle, a white supremacist organization, Brownwood police said. The man who was attacked is also believed to be a member of the group, police said.

The assault may have stemmed from a dispute within the organization, police said.

Jose Martin, 19, and Vicente Martin, 18, were indicted on money laundering charges.

Early police said they arrested the pair after an April 2 traffic stop and seized $41,000 in suspected drug money. There was evidence drugs had been in the vehicle, police said, but could not determine where they had been or where they were going.

Sean Brown, 30, was indicted on a robbery charge in connection with an attempted shoplifting in which the suspect shoved two store employees.

The suspect tried to a rack of ribs and bucket of potato wedges from Brookshire’s on June 12, police said, and shoved employees who tried to detain him as he attempted to get away.
