BANGS — Vendors interested in being represented at Friday’s third annual Heart of Texas Freedom Celebration at Bangs Memorial Stadium are still being accepted, Verba Hamrick said. The gates will open at 6 p.m. with a variety of booths, music, food vendors and games capped off by a fireworks display.

The fireworks show will begin at dark, which will be approximately 9:15 p.m. Rick Phelps will be the announcer, and Sydney Richard, 5, will sing the National Anthem.

Those attending are urged to bring their lawn chairs, or plan to sit in the stands of the stadium. Officials said the fireworks show will be a continuous presentation. Some $12,000 in professional fireworks will be displayed.

Vendors may call Hamrick at 752-6764 for information.

An ice cream contest will also be held during the event, and all area residents are invited to bring in a freezer of their favorite flavor. Ice cream will be judged at 7 p.m., which is the deadline for submitting entries, and the ice cream will be sold to those attending beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The ice cream will be donated for sale, and those proceeds will be divided among the first, second and third place winners as cash prizes. Betty Ellis is chairing the contest.
