Bulletin Staff Report

A group of runners will start 2010 off in stride when they join the first Beat the Clock 5K Charity Run on New Year’s Eve.

The run, benefiting the Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter here, is sponsored by Brownwood Fitness Center and The Loop Running Club.

The race will be held at Fabis Park with registration beginning at 10 p.m. Dec. 31. The run is scheduled to begin at 11:30 p.m., and an awards ceremony will follow the race – probably just after the new year arrives. In any case, runners will be pushing to finish before the year 2010 begins.

Awards will be given to the top male and female overall, as well as to the top male and female in the following age groups: 11 and under, 12–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69 and 70-plus.

Registration forms can be picked up at Brownwood Fitness Center. Pre-registration is $15 if received by noon Wednesday, Dec. 30. On race day, the registration fee will be $20

Water and snacks will be available to all participants following the race. Sponsors reminded participants that the weather is unpredictable, so they should be prepared for cold and/or wet weather.

No make-up date nor refunds of the race fee are scheduled, since entry fees benefit the Brown County Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Completed registration forms with payment in the form of cash or checks should be brought to the Brownwood Fitness Center and marked “Att’n: 5K Audry Anderson.”
