Two Brown County families carry the memories of loved ones who were murdered years ago in other Texas communities.
Both murders have generated recent media coverage — for reasons that are as different as the outcomes of the criminal cases.
In Brownwood, Larry Henderson and his family are relieved that the man who killed Henderson’s father in the Amarillo area 16 years ago was finally identified and brought to justice. The killer was sentenced to prison earlier this month.
Henderson said the prison sentence has brought a sense of closure to the family.
But in Early, Milton and Joyce Thompson believe a man has gotten away with murder for killing their 15-year-old grandson in Addison.
The man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation, not prison.
He has remained out of prison despite being a less-than-ideal probationer, the Dallas Morning News reported in a series of articles about murderers on probation.
