Bulletin Staff Report
Since February, members of several area churches have been gathering each month for an hour’s worship service where prayers are offered for Brown County residents who are suffering from addictions, illnesses and other problems.
Tonight, the rest of the community is invited to join them in a time of prayer and praise as the old year ends, and the new one begins.
The service will begin at 6 p.m. today at Union Presbyterian Church, 700 Fisk, Brownwood. The monthly gatherings rotate among churches whose pastors and ministers are involved in the Ministerial Fellowship.
Previous site for services have inlcuded Abundant Life Church and First Christian Church.
“The theme is ‘Arise, shine, for your light has come’ (Isaiah 60:1a, NIV),” the Rev. Mary D. D’Alessio, pastor of the host church, said. “We will have luminaries on the steps of the church and will once again offer worshippers the chance to come forward and light a tea candle and place it on an area of interest to them on the map of Brown County, which will be on tables in the front of the sanctuary.”
Those attending will sing praises through Christmas carols.
“We will be concentrating our prayers on asking God to shine his light into various areas of life in Brown County.” D’Alessio said. Prayers will be directed at various segments of the community.
“The service begins at 6 and will be over by 7,” D’Alessio said. “Please be in prayer that God will be known in powerful ways and that we all might be transformed.”
