COMANCHE — The annual Comanche Main Street Festival, which this year has the theme, “Comanche Celebrates…Western Tales & Trails,” will be this Saturday in Comanche.
Western authors and storytellers, including Elmer Kelton, Barbra Clack, Charles Chupp and Tumbleweed Smith, are headline names for the event, but activities include an array of historical reenactments, heritage demonstrations, musical entertainment, 5 and 10K fun runs and a children’s fun run.
At the event’s conclusion on Saturday afternoon, a Comanche High School All-Class Reunion will convene at Brennan Vineyards.
“Western Tales & Trails” is a Comanche Main Street Program intended to provide funds for downtown businesses, specifically for grant applications for assistance with facade improvement, signage, marketing and design assistance. A portion of the proceeds also supports other areas of the Comanche Main Street Program, in addition to providing assistance for the restoration and rehabilitation of the 1912 Comanche Frisco Depot. Comanche entered the Texas Main Street Program in 2002, and is nationally accredited by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Registration for the 5 and 10K runs begins at 7 a.m. and races begin at 8 a.m. at the Comanche County Courthouse Square. Vending booths will be set up by 8 a.m. and the full schedule of activities will begin by 9 a.m. around the square and throughout downtown Comanche.
