A Louisiana man is in the Brown County Jail awaiting extradition to his home state, where he is charged with the attempted murder of his wife.
Rene Garcia-Viera, 43, waived extradition proceedings Tuesday in 35th District Court.
Brownwood police Sgt. Troy Carroll said he and two U.S. Marshals arrested Garcia-Viera, a Honduran, on July 29 at a Lake Brownwood construction site. He was arrested on a Jefferson Parish warrant for attempted second degree murder, Carroll said.
Garcia-Viera is accused of stabbing his wife 13 times on June 16, according to Carroll and arrest documents.
Carroll did not know why Garcia-Viera was in Brown County, but said authorities learned he was living in an apartment located inside a Brownwood business. He declined to name the business.
Authorities learned Garcia-Viera was working at a construction site at Cason Cove, and he was arrested without incident, Carroll said.
