Texas public school students are getting a little longer summer break this year, thanks to a ruling from the Texas Legislature.
Early Independent School Districtís first day of classes, back from the summer break will be Aug. 27, a Monday. And of course, the next Monday, Sept. 3, will be the Labor Day holiday.
But after Labor Day, the next student break will be midway through the second six weeks. On Oct. 15, teachers have a staff development or work day and students wonít attend school.
Schools will release early Nov. 20 for the three-day plus the weekend Thanksgiving holiday. An early release is also scheduled for Dec. 21, for the Christmas holidays and will resume again on Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, though Jan. 3 and Jan. 4 are actually teacher staff development or work days. The following Friday, school will be let out for the Brown County Youth Fair.
Spring break will begin March 17 and classes will resume March 24, 2008.
Early High School graduation is May 31, 2008, a Saturday.
Staff and faculty work days begin Aug. 17, a Friday, and teachers and other district workers will have the full following week to get ready for school.
