A correctional officer at the Brownwood state school was arrested Friday on allegations of having sexual contact with one or more students.
Jaime Segura, 30, of Brownwood, is charged in multiple indictments with one count of sexual assault, three counts of indecency with a child, four counts of improper sexual activity with a person in custody and four counts of official oppression, the Texas Attorney General’s Office said.
The charges range from Class A misdemeanors to second degree felonies. A second degree felony carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The Brown County Grand Jury returned sealed indictments Thursday against Segura following an investigation by the attorney general’s office, authorities said.
Segura was released from jail Friday on bonds totaling $77,500.
No one answered the phone at Segura’s home Monday afternoon.
Segura was hired by the Texas Youth Commission in July 2005, and was placed on paid suspension in February 2007, TYC spokesman Jim Hurley of Austin said. Segura was placed on unpaid suspension Friday, and the TYC has started termination proceedings, Hurley said.
Hurley did not have information on the allegations against Segura, who is the fifth correctional officer from Brownwood’s Ron Jackson Juvenile Justice Correctional Center to face criminal charges this year.
The attorney general’s office e-mailed copies of the indictments to the media. In each e-mailed indictment, the name of the alleged victim was redacted and the number of students with whom Segura is accused of having sexual contact was not clear.
The indictments allege:
