Brownwood City Council members will consider adopting ordinances on first readings Tuesday to adopt the budget for the new fiscal year, levying taxes, setting utility rates and setting fees, rentals, licenses and permits.
The council will also consider approving a resolution supporting Brown County Commissioners’ earlier resolution that recommends to FEMA that the Base Flood Elevation be set at 10 feet above the Lake Brownwood spillway.
The proposed budget is $30.37 million, a decrease of .45 percent from the prior year.
Council members have proposed setting the tax rate at an unchanged rate of 72.67 cents per $100 valuation, which will generate an increase of $192,644 in additional revenue.
The council has proposed increasing the water consumption rate by 2.5 percent, which will increase an average residential bill by 50 cents a month.
