Beer, rabbit food, clothing and cosmetics were among items in a shopping cart pushed past Wal-Mart cash registers in an attempted shoplifting Monday, Brownwood police said.

Police arrested Roger Shugart, 52, and his wife, Deandria Shugart, 46, both of Dublin, on theft charges, Brown County Jail records state. Deandria Shugart was also charged with failure to identify.

Officer Trey Weathermon was dispatched to the store at 4:12 p.m. on a report that employees were detaining two people following an attempted shoplifting, Weathermon’s report states.

Items in the cart were valued at more than $200.

In an unrelated incident, police arrested Jessica Ethridge, 26, of Brownwood after responding to a report of a possible domestic disturbance in the area of southside and Poindexter.

Ethridge was charged with burglary of a habitation, abandonment/ endangerment of a child with intent to return and possession of a dangerous drug, jail records state.

Officer James Fuller arrived at 12:18 a.m. to find an incoherent woman sitting in a parked car that had apparent accident damage and a missing tire, Fuller’s report states. Fuller found medication in the car that was prescribed to another person.

Fuller and officer Stephanie Morgan learned that a woman had left her two children alone at home, then went to a relative’s home and went inside without permission, Fuller’s report states. The relative told police she believed the woman went in her home to steal medication, the report states.
