A traffic stop Friday morning in Early led to the seizure of 60 grams of methamphetamine and the arrests of the vehicle’s driver and passenger, authorities said.
Carey Darden, 42, of Blanket, the driver, and Scotty Pinkston, 29, of Brownwood were booked into the Brown County Jail on charges of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, jail records state.
Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jason Shea and trooper Karl Keesee stopped a vehicle for speeding at 9:30 a.m. on U.S. 67 on the east edge of Early, Police Chief Junior Pinson said.
Officer Johnny Brown and the drug dog, Bla’zen, which make up the Early Police Department’s K-9 unit, were asked to assist, Pinson said.
Bla’zen alerted on the vehicle, and officers found about 50 grams of methamphetamine inside, Pinson said. on U.S. 67 near the East city limits of Early. One of the suspects also had about 10 grams of methamphetamine in one of his pockets, Pinson said.
