Comedy and concert piano may not seem a likely mixture, but at tonightís Brownwood Area Live on Stage, that is exactly what will occur.
The second of the seasonís five concerts in the BALOS 2009-2010 concert series will feature the Lithuania native from California, Rudolf Budginas, at 7:30 p.m. today at the Victory Life Church Auditorium, 901 C.C. Woodson.
Budginas, who has performed in front of audiences from Denmark to Japan and several others in between, began his studies at age 4 and made his debut at age 9 with the Lithuanian Symphony.
He went international during and after his studies at the Moscow Conserva-tory, at which time he performed solo concerts throughout the world including performances in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Budapest, Salzburg, Cologne, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Riga and Moscow.
Budginas has won many awards including first prize in the International Liszt Piano Competition, second prize in the Vitols International Piano competition and the Yamaha of Europe award.
Accepting a full scholarship to the University of Southern California to complete a Ph.D. in music, Budginas was transplanted to California where he took up surfing and developed a passion to make classical music more accessible to American audiences and a broader audience appeal.
Starting in September, Budginas began a 82-city, 32-state tour to conquer Americansí musical ears and, of course, their senses of humor.
Admission to the concert is by season membership, and details are available at the door.
