A Wal-Mart employee figured she was being called to the office to be offered a promotion, but learned instead that she was suspected of stealing $30 from a cash register, Brownwood police said.
The woman said shed been a hard worker who was working toward a promotion and had never stolen from the store, a report by officer Stephanie Morgan states.
Morgan was dispatched to the store Monday in reference to an Aug. 4 incident. A Wal-Mart representative said the woman is suspected of giving a customer $30 in change when the customer was entitled to $6 in change.
The customer returned the money, and the cashier put it in her pocket rather than the cash register, Morgan was told.

Tools and other items valued at more than $10,000 were taken from two camping trailers, a house under construction and a barn at county roads 321 and 284.
Items taken include two screw guns, an air compressor, two drills, a rechargeable spotlight, two air guns, four boxes of nails, two extension cords 50 and 25 feet long, a two air hoses 100 feet and 50 feet long, two game cameras, two pop-up hunting blinds, two coil nailers, two boxes of coil nails. four knives, a shotgun, binoculars, 10 sticks of copper, a generator and six chainsaws.
A man told deputies his wife assaulted him at her home on Valle Vista in Early.
A woman told a deputy her boyfriend assaulted her at their home on FM 1689.
Deputy James Stroope arrested Amber Drummond, 27, of Brownwood on an assault charge after a domestic disturbance in the in the 8100 block of Gordon Road. Stroope arrested Marvin Thompson, 29, of Brownwood on an assault charge in the same incident.
