Bulletin Staff Report

The day before the big day has finally dawned.

And the shutdown of stores, businesses and offices that began Wednesday throughout the Brownwood area will accelerate as the countdown to Christmas Day concludes.

Many professional offices closed at noon Wednesday for a long Christmas holiday weekend. But many stores will remain open until sunset and beyond today, ready to serve last-minute Christmas shoppers or those with other, more routine needs.

Christmas Day will find a handful of stores open, and they – no doubt – will enjoy a brisk business from families who opened packages only to realize that Santa failed to read the packaging that says, “batteries not included.”

Governmental offices in Brownwood and Early will be closed today and Friday, but essential services like police and fire will be maintained.

Sanitation schedules in Brownwood and Early have also been adjusted for the holiday schedule.

In Brownwood, there will be no collection of residential waste today or Friday. Residents with blue or green carts will have collections on this schedule: Thursday’s routes were collected on Wednesday, and Friday’s routes will be collected on Saturday.

The recycling center and landfill will be closed today and Friday. They will reopen on Saturday.

Problems related to water or sewer service in the City of Brownwood may be reported at any time by calling 646-6000.

The City of Early offices will be closed today and Friday, and there will be no trash pick up on those days.
